La Vega Province
This chapter follows La Vega city, Santo Cerro, Jarabacoa, Constanza, and the mountain landscapes of the province. Carnival, pilgrimage, coffee, local sweets, flower culture, waterfalls, pine forest, agriculture, ruins, and colorful streets each receive their own color language.

A study of color as it lives in the built architecture of painted walls, tiled surfaces, doors, shutters, interiors, ornament, and the materials that give a place its visual character.

The Living Table
A study of color gathered around the table, including ingredients, dishes, fruits, sweets, ceramics, textiles, and the everyday rituals through which place becomes shared and tasted.
VIDA
The Shared Life
A study of color carried through celebration, ritual, music, dress, craft, devotion, work, gathering, and everyday tradition, tracing the things a place makes, wears, plays, offers, remembers, and shares.
TERRITORIO
The Living Territory
A study of color rooted in the land itself, including flora, fauna, stone, soil, water, cultivation, and the living systems that shape the visual identity of a place.

Research for The Color of The Capitals and National Parks draws from the National Park Service, Library of Congress HABS, HAER and HALS collections, United States Geological Survey, USDA agricultural records, and state and local historical, cultural and geographic sources.
The Color of Place is built from research across UNESCO cultural and natural heritage records, Library of Congress collections, Smithsonian cultural and folklife resources, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and FAOSTAT, UN Tourism and official national, regional and local destination resources, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Plants of the World Online, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, ICOMOS cultural landscape research, government and municipal archives, museums, heritage institutions, agricultural and environmental records, natural parks, local histories, cookbooks and culinary sources. Research is also informed by personal consultation, oral knowledge and lived cultural experience shared by people from or connected to the places represented. Together these sources help trace the architecture, landscapes, geology, flora and fauna, agriculture, craft, celebrations, materials, traditions and everyday life that form the research foundation for each color palette.
